Project Trawl

A breather for local water bodies

In the true spirits of Future of the sea: plastic pollution and the recommendations that it has made, ServePlanet only carries out the exclusively charitable projects to reduce plastic pollution in the water bodies which is projected to treble in a decade without further intervention. The major response lies in preventing plastic and litter from entering the sea, introducing new biodegradable plastics and public awareness about marine protection. ServePlanet, thus, in association with municipal councils, aims to reduce litter from drainage systems, where drainage is discharged into reserves of other water bodies, will install trawl like nets to capture gross pollutants including  plastic and micro-plastic waste before they contaminate the natural environment at the downstream end of the outlet area.

Impact & Public Benefit

Installation of trawl nets is an extremely effective method to prevent contamination of the marine environment. The installation will lead to a significant reduction in the discharge of litter, plastic and micro-plastic in the water bodies. Thus, a lower level of contamination of marine life will essentially benefit the humans. There is an important link between human health and wellbeing and the sea. The sea is a key source of nutrition, and fish provide essential protein, oils and minerals. A check on marine litter will result in it not entering the food chain of creatures living in them and ultimately will benefit humans.
