The innovative marine clean-up

With reliance on the Future of the sea: plastic pollution- The report by Sir Mark Walport, Government Chief Scientific Advisor (2013-17) and Prof. Ian Boyd, Chief Scientific Advisor, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs which brings together the evidence of global challenges and opportunities recognising the growing importance of the sea and the need to take a strategic approach to managing the marine interests & with an aim to support the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ServePlanet shall adopt two strategic steps:

  1. ServePlanet will conduct the removal of plastic and micro-plastic debris from the water bodies across UK with round-the-clock waste collection and will scan and monitor the environmental data. After initial investigation and report finding, ServePlanet aims to carry out the waste collection in the following water bodies:

    - River Mersey

    - River Thames, London

    - River Irwell, Salford, Greater Manchester

    - River Tame, Tameside, Greater Manchester

    - Afon Cegin River, North Wales

  2. With a commitment to develop solutions through partnerships with individuals, governments, NGOs and businesses, ServePlanet will actively promote the Dive Against Debris and at its own cost and will encourage more divers to collect the garbage from the designated areas including:

    - Lundy Island, Devon

    - Farne Islands, Northumberland

    - Capernwray, Lancashire

    - The Manacles, Cornwall

Impact & Public Benefit

It is well recognised that large scale litter and plastic removal from water bodies is essential for humans. There is an important link between human health and wellbeing and the sea. The sea is a key source of nutrition, and fish provide essential protein, oils and minerals. A check on marine litter will result in it not entering the food chain of creatures living in them and ultimately will benefit humans.
